Crocodile Park
This is a crocodile conservation area, comprising a selection of large concrete pools containing a considerable number of crocodiles. It is located on the main Chennai–Pondicherry road north of the Ideal Beach Resort. It is quite heavily wooded and the water attracts some birds such as Indian Pond Heron (feeding at the water's edge – one got grabbed by a crocodile!), Black-crowned Night-heron, White-throated Kingfisher, Rose-ringed Parakeet and a female Asian Koel. Two very brightly-coloured (seemingly more so than those in Britain) Common Kingfishers plunged into a crocodile-filled pool to catch small fish.
