August 2000

Only one trip this month, again to the birding mecca (at least in Sussex) of Pagham Harbour.

We visited Pagham on the 27th and weren't nearly as lucky with waders as we had been in July. The Ferry Pond was very quiet with no birds worth mentioning! The harbour was a bit better with about 50 Grey Plover and approximately 30 Dunlin, plus five migrating Sand Martins, and nine Whinchats in one party. Two juvenile Common Whitethroats showed well near the carpark.

Up (or down, depending on your view point) at Church Norton, amongst others, we had 80+ Eurasian Curlew, 22 Little Egrets, 4 Grey Herons, 57 Ruddy Turnstone and 6 Northern Wheatear.

Somewhat surprisingly the month total was again 61 species. The Yellow-legged Gull and Common Greenshank we seen near Shoreham.
