July 2000

As with June we only managed to do one trip, this time to that old favourite, Pagham Harbour.

We started at the Ferry Pond at 6.45am on a misty morning. Since it was July we hoped migrating waders would be about; happily we found 37 Black-tailed Godwits in various plumages, 24 Dunlin, 6 Little Ringed Plovers, 5 Common Sandpipers and a single, white-headed, male Ruff. Also here we found a lone male Garganey.

The Channel had the expected Eurasian Reed-warblers and Sedge Warblers plus adult and juvenile Eurasian Reed-buntings. Two fine male Yellowhammers sung from the tops of the bushes.

On the way back we dropped in to Swanbourne Park, Arundel. Here were 2 male and 1 female Ruddy Duck, 5 male and 6 female Mandarin and singing Blackcap.

The month list matched June's total again totalling 61 species. (The Rose-ringed Parakeets were seen at Hampton Court Park west of London.)
