Piste de Vallon
Piste de Vallon
To find Piste de Vallon drive east along the N113 from Arles to Salon-de-Provence and turn left down the D5 to Istres. Immediately on the left is a barren-looking area of small rocks and short grasses. And it was hot! This is Piste de Vallon and is well worth a look. We started off with a male dark-phase Montagu's Harrier, Crested Larks and Tawny Pipits. A female Montagu's Harrier was soon seen and a male later on.Greater Short-toed Larks were seen here as was a Lesser Kestrel, a Northern Wheatear and an Alpine Swift. We walked into the area for about 100 metres and saw two low-flying Little Bustards as they disappeared over a ridge. Also here we had Short-toed Snake-eagle.
